Qualifications - Next steps to Education and employment

From the moment a student joins us they will be enrolled onto AQA Unit Award scheme and can gain certificates of achievement from across the curriculum which is carried on throughout all Key stages.

The Unit Award Scheme (UAS) is a unique way to record learner achievement. Its ‘can do’ approach is used to boost student confidence, engagement, and motivation. It allows all students to engage with learning and see a clearer route towards GCSEs and other qualifications.

Their confidence grows as they achieve, building their core skills and knowledge in a range of subjects.Lessons are based around UAS building subject knowledge and linking this into the next topic learnt. These cover all core subjects and a wide variety of the curriculum. These can be tailored to suit the needs of each learner at different levels and personal interests.

The levels of the award are as follows:
Pre entry level
Entry level
Level 1
Level 2

These support learning to move onto Functional skills in KS3 and 4. We can offer Functional skills Level 1 followedby a level 2 in English and Maths. These have an equivalent grade to a GCSE.

Level 1 functional skills Maths and English qualifications are equivalent to grades 2/3at GCSE and give a good start point to be able to move on to higher qualifications like level 2 or GCSE.

Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and English is an Ofqual approved qualification, equal to a grade 4 at GCSE, which is a pass.

Key stage 3 curriculum overview

The aim is to provide a broad curriculum balanced by student interests and needs, enabling them to make some choices within a robust framework of essential learning.
